Is showing up enough?
Hey it’s Jennifer here and today I want to share with you this ‘showing up’ thingy that people often talk about and is it enough?
Of course it’s like anything in life you need to put your energy or presence into whatever it is you are wanting to see results in. People talk about showing up and of course that is half the battle won, but when you get there what are you doing? I guess it’s like anything, are you showing up with enthusiasm wanting to make a difference in your life or are you dragging your feet bringing half of you along while the other daydreams and slacks off? Nothing wrong with daydreaming since it is powerful to your own wellbeing, but when you show up to something how are you feeling before and even when you get there?
When I show up in my kitchen to cook most of the time I am fully present, ready to know what to create for the family putting my time and love into a delicious meal so that the end result is satisfying. When I show up to my Zumba classs do you think I am going there for a holiday? No, I am going to get my but kicked so that I can sweat and get as much out of it as I can. I am fully present. When I show up for Internet Marketing, I am on my game and ready to commit to the day and give what I can as well as learning as much as I can. Do you see what I mean by showing up?
It’s all very well to have amazing products to sell to people regardless of whether it is food, clothing, tech, software, electricity, toys etc……you name it, down the line there is a customer asking for that product and if you don’t show up how will there be a good transaction now or in the future. At the end of the day we are all selling something. Everyone is a customer no matter what you are doing. Even if you are a librarian at the community library, you are still working to supply to people. If you don’t bring your A-game and the library is in a shamozzle, then less and less people will attend rendering the library useless. There goes your job. Even if you are an electrician working behind the scenes and having no contact with the customer, your boss will feel the direct hit if something is done carelessly rendering you at fault. So you see, we are all in this together.
You can’t just show up, you need to be fully present when engaging and then some.
Regardless of what it is you are doing, just showing up is not enough. Like I said before if you are bringing yourself with your feet dragging, it’s going to be a long day. Sure we all have days like that sometimes, but you have to get your ‘best’ on if you want to have success in life. In a previous post I talked about how having a good attitude in life and getting happy is prior to success. Most people think in order to achieve success, is to first get the money you want, so that you can buy the things you want, so that you will be happy. When actually happiness is always available to us with the decision to just be happy! How to SHOW up.
When you go to a job interview do you sit there all half asleep and uninterested? Hopefully not. Do you approach the person at the interview with too much enthusiasm that it rings desperation? These examples are contrasting and can result in no call backs. When you show up to anything you want to arrive in a manner that is:
- having a plan in your head
You might say, “how can one be all of those things at once?” You would not necessarily experience all of those emotions at once, but during the course of what you are doing you may.
For example: right now for me I really enjoy teaching and sharing what I know and so when I get into a flow here it is effortless. I feel enthusiasm, excitement, creativity, calm and balance. Being able to share what I know also causes me to experience a feeling of wellbeing.
But how is all this going to help me?
Well, whether you know it or not, being able to do your work or attend something that asks a lot from you can cause a lot of people to lack confidence in themselves as well as putting a stop to what they are doing altogether. It can also cause great stress.In this post you will learn the 3 concepts you need and why?
Earlier in this post you would remember that I have spoken about bringing your best! I am going to show you how to bring your best by sharing what I do. Now you might think that it is not worth the exercise but believe me it works. Do you think an Olympic athlete brings their A-game of their F-game when they are about to perform?
Here’s the 3 concepts I use:
Here’s what I do.
- THINK FIRST and IMAGINE-
It might seem like a simple answer and it is, but do not underestimate the power of your focused thought. I think about things in a way that is pleasing to me before I go ahead with it. Does that mean I get it right the first time….sometimes I do, but sometimes I have to haggle with the thought’s in my mind until something starts to FEEL right. And I say FEEL being the operative word here because that is your gut telling you to either go with it, stay or ponder some more. Your head and heart/gut work well together, get using them. Also, let your imagination become creative and pleasing to you in that moment. Play out how you would like things to become in your minds eye. Start to uncover your true potential that is available to you all of the time. Imagining is fun and things usually work out better than what you could have imagined. Utilize your imagination it is powerful. Paint with your mind.
When you think about something you have to know what side of the coin you are on.
2. WHAT SIDE OF THE COIN ARE YOU ON?-
These two go hand in hand. Sometimes we feel first and then think. Other times we think first and then feel. It doesn’t really matter which one comes first but it does matter that you incorporate the time of them together before you take any action. When I start to think about something that I want to do or create, whatever that may be, I have to check where I am at first. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but really it is simple and I am just breaking this down for you in order to become more conscious of how you go about things so that they can work for you and you can get the most out of you! Don’t worry it comes naturally, it is your feelings. Just become more aware of them so that they can guide you.
So when you start thinking about something that requires making decisions, there are two simple steps that will determine whether to proceed or not. People think this is silly but a lot of people make mistakes that could have not happened(even me at times) if they follow this rule:
How do you feel when you are trying to make decisions? If I am tired it goes in the too hard basket. Don’t pressure yourself into something or be pressured when you are tired. You’re not thinking straight and you may not be aware of all of the information. You could also end up wasting your time. You are dragging your feet when you are tired and can make some costly mistakes. Ones that will teach you, but costly at that. This is why it is so important to be on your A-game so that you are highly tuned to your own power centre-The gut/heart. When you are off or tired you may get the wrong feedback even though at the time it can feel right. I know I can’t think straight when I am tired, so I try not to do those important things when I am not fully present. And it is totally O.k to not being fully present. We all need a break from life’s demands and it is refreshing to take a break so that when you return to whatever it is you are doing, you can commit more fully.
3. TAKING PHYSICAL ACTION-
Action is central to our lives, we spend most of our waking ours doing some kind of action. Thought processing and feeling is an integral part of our action, but now it’s time to get active.
Once I have completed my thought process(which by the way should feel natural-if not don’t give up keep practicing keep doing it until it feels natural just like driving a car) and have seen how I feel about it, I then go an apply myself. I am usually in a good state of feeling good and from that platform it is really just becomes natural. Don’t over complicate this, O.k just THINK AND FEEL FOR A WHILE AND THEN GO DO IT.
Once you are in a good feeling place and you know wild horses will not hold you back, that is the time to strike. You will also thrive on this energy because you have lined yourself up just by doing these simple exercises. Make sure you strike when the iron is hot or procrastination will kick in.
I am enjoying learning and sharing so much on my blog, but lately I have been thinking, feeling and getting active with organizing an opt-in form so that my lovely readers can receive great info from me as well as freebies. It is different to the current one and there is quite a bit of work to do, but I am warming up to it so that I know what is ahead of me while I keep on top of other things.
If things seem daunting to you, break them down into little steps and do your research so that it is not so daunting. Often we make things bigger than what they are and so we never do them. Or finally when we do, we discover that it was easier than we thought.
